<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a position detecting apparatus equipped with a set of radiators which are disposed at an each position near to the body of a subject and generate various electromagnetic fields. <P>SOLUTION: The apparatus includes the set of radiators which are disposed near to the subject and generate a field of an electromagnetic energy, a position sensor which is disposed in the body of the subject to detect the electromagnetic energy, and one or more reference elements which are disposed near to the position sensor, and a controlling device which determines an undistorted reference parameter for each reference element corresponding to the known position of the reference element and calculates upon receiving a position sensor signal and a reference signal a reference element error of the each reference element corresponding to an interaction between a metal member and the above energy field, the undistorted reference parameter of the each reference element and the reference signal generated by the each reference element. Afterwards, the controlling device calculates the position of the position sensor corresponding to the position sensor signal and the reference element error. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
