PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To keep a fast-forward reproduction speed constant by minimizing a deviation between a voice and reproduction time during reproduction when VBR compressed data is fast-forwarded or fast-rewound to be reproduced. SOLUTION: A servo controller decoder 204 obtains bit rate information from compressed digital data recorded in a disk 100, specifies a reproduction starting position based on the obtained bit rate information and currently reproduced reproduction time information obtained by a microcomputer 203, and repeat an operation to read the compressed digital data of the disk from the specified reproduction position for reproduction for every unit time.
