<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wavelength converting apparatus which enables one multi-wavelength light source to provide a tuned wavelength that is required by each wavelength converter, without using individual light sources of wavelengths different for each wavelength of a multiplexer from each other. <P>SOLUTION: As a wavelength converting apparatus for converting wavelengths of a number of signal channels with different wavelengths, the wavelength converting apparatus is provided with a multi-wavelength light source 500 for generating multi-wavelength light, a wavelength converter 300 provided for each signal channel for converting the wavelength of a corresponding signal channel, a wavelength division multiplexer 400 for demultiplexing the multi-wavelength light by the multi-wavelength light source and for multiplexing the signal channel of which the wavelength is converted by the wavelength converter, a first optical circulator 600 for transmitting the multi-wavelength light from the multi-wavelength light source to the wavelength division multiplexer, and a second optical circulator 700 for supplying multi-wavelength light demultiplexed by the wavelength division multiplexer as the tuning wavelength required for the wavelength conversion by the wavelength converter. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
