The method involves creating a copy (25) of the downlink data (13) to be transmitted by a telecommunication network in the direction of the terminal. The downlink data copy is decoded by a transcoder (18) and used to reduce (10) the echo in uplink data (21), while downlink data are transmitted in the direction of the terminal. An Independent claim is included for an apparatus for reducing echo in uplink data.
