PURPOSE: A road gradient-sensitive engine idle rpm control system and a controlling method thereof are provided to save fuel by reducing the fuel consumption due to unnecessary high-speed idle rotation on a level terrain or downhill slope. CONSTITUTION: A road gradient-sensitive engine idle rpm control system comprises an intake temperature sensor(1) sensing the temperature of the air sucked into an engine(6), a coolant temperature sensor(2) sensing the temperature of the cooling water of the engine, a vehicle gradient sensor(3) sensing the gradient of a vehicle body, a control unit(4) adjusting the idle speed of the engine depending on the gradient of the vehicle body, and a gradient display(5) displaying the gradient of the vehicle body by the control unit.
