PURPOSE: An optical circulator is provided to simultaneously provide an optical switch function and an optical circulator function. CONSTITUTION: An optical circulator includes the first, second, third and fourth optical fibers(1-a,1-b,1-c,1-d), the first, second, third and fourth ferrules(2-a,2-b,2-c,2-d), the first, second, third and fourth collimator lenses(3-a,3-b,3-c,3-d), the first and second reflecting prisms(4-a,4-b), the first and second PBSs(Polarized Beam Splitters)(5-a,5-b), a birefringence crystal(6), a spacer(7), a Faraday rotator(8), a lens(9) and a ferroelectric liquid crystal device(10). A non-polarized light beam input through the first optical fiber passes through the first ferrule and the first collimator lens to be input to the crystal. When the non-polarized light beam passes through the crystal, the beam is split into an ordinary ray and an extraordinary ray, which pass through the spacer and the lens to be input to the ferroelectric liquid crystal device. The rays pass through the Faraday rotator to be rotated such that the rays have a polarization direction opposite to the original polarization direction.
