PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for setting function according to motion in a terminal are provided to enable backlighting of a screen, a mode conversion and a menu shifting according to a tilt or specific motion even without inputting through a key pad. CONSTITUTION: When certain motion in a terminal is performed by a user, a motion sensor generates a terrestrial magnetic signal and an acceleration signal and applies them to an MSM(Mobile Station Modem)(S401). It is determined whether the terrestrial magnetic signal and the acceleration signal are identical to motion setup data stored in a memory unit(S402). If the terrestrial magnetic signal and the acceleration signal are identical to motion setup data, the MSM performs an operation according to the motion setup data(S403).
