The system has an internal combustion engine with an inlet for allowing gas to pass through and an outlet for allowing the gas to escape. An accumulation unit (3) storing gas under pressure is associated with a charging/discharging control unit. Fuel and air supplies are cut in some of engine cylinders during a charging phase. The unit is integrated in an engine hood (1) and a lower part of a body of an automobile.
