<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for detecting an obstacle and a radar apparatus for mounting on a vehicle, which can prevent a driver to recognize by mistake a non-existing and static body on the path of the moving vehicle as the obstacle. <P>SOLUTION: The radar apparatus comprises a detector 1 for receiving a reflected wave, which is radiated to a moving vehicle direction and reflected by the body, and calculating a speed of the body approaching to the vehicle by analyzing the reflected wave. The apparatus also comprises a comparator 3 for determining whether the body is standing still, depending on the speed of the body approaching to the vehicle and a speed of vehicle measured by a vehicle speed measuring means 2, and a decision unit 5 ignores the body determined to be standing still but non-existence based on an image being shot in a forward direction of the moving vehicle. The apparatus can prevent the driver to recognize by mistake the body of non-existence and standing still such as a billboard and a guard rail as the obstacle since the standing still body is ignored if it does not exist on the path of the moving vehicle. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO</p> |
