<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inverter circuit that has a dimming function that can reduce beats induced by the vibration of an input winding, the magnetic stress of a ferrite core, and resonance that occur by the repetition of a peak current. <P>SOLUTION: The inverter circuit has a step-up transformer that supplies a DC current to the input winding and outputs an alternating voltage from an output winding, by interrupting the current of the input winding by a switching element. In this circuit, a means is provided that intermittently changes the output voltage level of the step-up transformer by controlling the on/off time of the switching element with a starting current that actuates the switching element.
