<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a network acquisition method for a cellular system radio communication apparatus 100 which is operated by a plurality of radio access technologies and of which the network search operation is enhanced. <P>SOLUTION: In the network acquisition method which determines (16) the most appropriate cell on the basis of characteristics of signals received from a plurality of cells, the signals from the respective cells are provided in one frequency band, and set so as to perform a series of measurement of the characteristics by every frequency by one radio access technology (14). The characteristics of at least one measured signal by every frequency are compared with a prescribed value before the final measurement of the series of measurement. When one radio access technology does not form an appropriate cell as a result, the radio access technology is switched to alternate radio access technology before the final measurement of the series of measurement is performed, and a signal in accordance with the alternate radio access technology is searched (18 and 20) for searching the appropriate cell. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
