PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester resin especially effective in the application such as an optical film.

SOLUTION: The polyester resin is an alicyclic polyester comprising a dicarboxylic acid unit and a diol unit, and (1) the dicarboxylic acid unit is mainly composed of a 1,4-cyclohexane dicarboxylic acid unit, and (2) the diol unit is mainly composed of a 1,4-cyclohexane dimethanol unit, and (3) a proportion of alkyl ester terminals to the total terminals of the polyester is≤5 mol%, and (4) a light transmittance of a resin molding plate of 2 mm thickness is≥87%.
