PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an easy track pitch measuring method using only the function of a magnetic disk unit. SOLUTION: The method is provided with a magnetic disk recorded with servo tracks having burst patterns by which two signals 34 and 35 orthogonal with each other are reproduced, a reproducing means for reproducing the two signals orthogonal with each other and a control section for positioning and controlling a magnetic head. The method positions the magnetic head to positions 37 and 39 where the absolute values of the two signals orthogonal with each other are equal, acquires the absolute values of the two signals in the positioned positions and calculates the track pitches of the servo tracks recorded to the magnetic disk based on the acquired absolute values. The calculated track pitches are determined for a plurality of the servo tracks and the track pitches of the respective servo tracks are calculated by assuming that the average values of the calculated track pitches of the plurality of the servo tracks are the normal values of the track pitches.
