PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus and an image processing method capable of reducing only stripe noises caused by variations among channels that have occurred since they cannot be corrected by gain adjustment, while avoiding deterioration of necessary information such as the edges of a subject, and deterioration of picture quality. SOLUTION: In the image processing apparatus which subjects input image data to signal processing, a fixed pattern detecting means 1 uses pixel data to be processed and data on ambient pixels to detect a predetermined fixed pattern. Fixed pattern correcting means 2, 3 carry out a correction process (i.e., gain adjustment) only for those pixels from which the fixed pattern was detected by the fixed pattern detecting means 1. Only the stripe noises (fixed patterns) caused by variations among, e.g., the channels, can be reduced without deteriorating necessary information such as the edges of the subject nor deteriorating picture quality.
