PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a branched aromatic polycarbonate excellent in melting characteristics such as melt tension and improved in hue. SOLUTION: The aromatic polycarbonate is obtained by reacting a carbonic acid diester with an aromatic dihydroxy compound. In the aromatic polycarbonate, a value represented byαin the formula (1):α=p2ρ/[1-p2(1-ρ)] (whereinαrepresents a probability in which molecular final end is a branched unit; p represents a probability in which n chains are produced;ρrepresents a branched unit number) is 0.03-0.3.
