Devices and methods for monitoring the flow of blood through an intravascular device (18) are disclosed. An apparatus for monitoring blood flow in accordance with an exemplary embodiment of the present invention includes an intravascular device (18) coupled to an elongated member (10), a first sensor (26) adapted to measure fluidic pressure proximal the intravascular device (18), a second sensor (28) adapted to measure fluidic pressure distal the intravascular device (18), and a control unit (42) for comparing the signals received from the first and second sensors (26,28) to determine the pressure drop across the intravascular device (18).
