PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a colorless copolymer having excellent heat resistance, transparency and fluidity; and to provide a method for producing the copolymer. SOLUTION: The copolymer contains≥5 wt.% specific lactone ring structural unit. One unit of the lactone ring structural unit can be formed by heat-treating a copolymer obtained by copolymerizing an alkyl methacrylate monomer, an allyl alcohol-based monomer and optionally other vinylic monomers, at 150-300°C.
