A photo-interrupter (31) measures the flow rate of a booster pump (13) connected to an arm wrap (9) wound around the subject e.g. person or test animal. An arm perimeter length detector circuit (79) calculates the perimeter length of the subject's arm based on the measured flow rate, so as to correct the value of blood pressure accordingly.
