<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an α-glucosidase inhibitor safe and effective even when taking continuously for a long period, since the α-glucosidase is an enzyme for decomposing disaccharides such as maltose, sucrose, into their monosaccharides in intestine, and by inhibiting its activity, it is possible to inhibit the absorption of the sugars, a hyper blood sugar level after taking food materials is markedly inhibited and it is useful for the prevention or improvement of diabetes mellitus, or the like. <P>SOLUTION: This α-glucosidase inhibitor is obtained by blending Youbaihi (dried bark of Myrica rubra).
