Exhaust gas purification device comprises a solid filter (4) arranged in the exhaust gas line (3) of an engine to collect solids contained in the exhaust gas (E), a first oxidation catalyst (5) arranged in the exhaust gas line before the filter, a control unit (10), a second oxidation catalyst (7) arranged before the first oxidation catalyst in the exhaust gas line, a bypass (8) arranged in the exhaust gas line around the second oxidation catalyst, and a unit (9) for changing the flow path of the exhaust gas so that it passes through the second oxidation catalyst or through the bypass. An Independent claim is also included for a process for purifying diesel engine exhaust gases.
