<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a network acquisition method with which efficiency of a network search is improved, a dead time that a user experiences is reduced, and power required for a device in a network acquisition procedure is also reduced. <P>SOLUTION: The network acquisition method for a cellular communication device has a step of determining an optimal cell based upon characteristics of signals received from a plurality of cells. The signals from the cells are imparted onto a frequency band (10). The determination step has a steps of performing a series of measurements (A, B, C, D, E) of the characteristics to frequencies (1 to n) in order to obtain an average value. Each of the serial measurements (A, B, C, D, E) is performed with respect to all frequencies (1 to n) in the frequency band (10) before performing the next measurement in a series of measurements. The serial measurements (A, B, C, D, E) to the frequencies (1 to n) are performed at equal intervals, the equal intervals (12, 14, 16, 18) are provided between the measurements, and the intervals may be used for further processing a signal from a network cell. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
