PURPOSE: A system and a method for certifying a prepayment card are provided to enhance the security for a card transaction by preventing the illegal use of forged/altered card as improving a certification procedure between the prepayment card and a card terminal. CONSTITUTION: A card read/write device(210) reads information from the prepayment card(100) and rewrites the information stored in the prepayment card. A memory(220) stores the blacklist information for stopped cards. An encryption module(230) encrypts/outputs the information read from the prepayment card. A key input device(250) inputs a function of the terminal and various parameters, and manually inputs a charge. A display(260) classifies/displays the remainder of the prepayment card or a card type by a controlling signal of a controller(240). A printer(270) outputs a receipt or a transaction record for a processed transaction. An input/output device(280) provides a serial/parallel port for interfacing with external devices.
