The procedure is for obtaining vegetative and flagellated cells of chlorophycea micro-algae of the genus Hematococcus pluvialis rch in caratenoid astaxantine in a single phase. The pigmentary composition of the micro-algae is modified by means of phenotypic changes, avoiding the synthesis of the thick cellular wall, which facilitates the extraction of the pigment, rendering it more usable for industrial purposes, permitting the collection of the culture in a single phase in discontinuous cultures. The synthesis and accumulation of cetocarotenoids are carried out in conditions of no limitation of nutrients, particularly in the source of nitrogen at a concentration of 3 mM and with a source of organic carbon (acetated or malonated) at a concentration between 10 and 20 mM nad of a high concentration of light between 250 and 350 micromol m, 2 S1, which permits an increase of the density and an accumulation of cetocarotenoids.
