Plug (12) for insertion into a socket (24), comprising a first (13) and a second (15) spaced apart bar, each having a first essentially rigid section (14) and a second essentially flexible section (16) shaped for releasable engaging of the socket. The plug is adapted to allow safe mechanical connection and release of the mechanical connection in ordinary use as well as to allow disconnection of the connection if too strong a mechanical force in the wrong direction that might break the bars is applied. The height of the plug is also limited so that it can be used for very thin portable electronic devices, like cellular phones of the clamshell type. <IMAGE>
