PURPOSE: A head driving device for an ink jet printer and a method for controlling the same are provided to reduce high-frequency components generated due to impedance components formed around a switching device for driving a thermal device. CONSTITUTION: A head driving device(200) for an ink jet printer includes a control unit(210), a latch section(220), a gate array(230), a level shift section(240), and a switching section(250). The control unit(210) has a decoder(212) and a shift register(214). The decoder(212) receive data signals from a microcomputer and outputs the data signals to the shift register(214) by decoding the data signals. The shift register(214) sends a nozzle selection signal to the latch section(220) by synchronizing the nozzle selection signal with a clock. The latch section(220) latches data signals inputted thereto from the shift register(214). The gate array(230) includes a plurality of AND gates.
