PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the method and the apparatus for forming metallic caps by which a fitting/projecting part which is properly fit and locked on the container body of the metallic can container are mass-produced continuously and stably at low cost, and also to provide a metallic can container. SOLUTION: This method is composed of a first press-forming stage 11 where a metallic sheet is cut into a circle or a polygon and simultaneously the top face part of the cap and a cylindrical peripheral wall part having a slightly larger diameter than the top face part through a boundary stepped part are respectively drawn, a second press-forming stage 12 where the required side of the lower end part of the cylindrical peripheral wall part is preformed as the small diameter part for fitting in the opening of the container body and a third press-forming stage 13 where the boundary part between the cylindrical peripheral wall part and the small diameter part of the cap is properly finished. Furthermore, the method is composed of a fourth press-forming stage 14 where preforming for inwardly curling the open edge part of the small diameter part of the cap is performed, a fifth press-forming stage 15 where the open edge part of the small diameter part of the cap is curled surely inwardly and a sixth press-forming stage 16 where a plurality of fitting/projecting parts for elastically riding across and locking to an annular projecting part where the open edge part of the container main part is inwardly curled are formed in a part of the small diameter cap part.
