PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an idle switch failure determining device for making a determination at ON time, not at ignition switch OFF time without making an erroneous determination as failure in spite of normally operating an idle switch 2. SOLUTION: This idle switch failure determining device determines the existence of failure of the idle switch 2 for detecting that a throttle valve is a full closure state, and has a means for determining whether or not to output an OFF signal from the idle switch 2 when a signal VTH outputted from a throttle opening sensor 3 is in the vicinity of a prescribed value VTH<SB>MIN</SB>, and a means for determining whether or not the failure is caused in the idle switch 2 on the basis of this determining result.
