The invention provides enzymes, polynucleotides encoding the enzymes, antibodies that bind to the enzymes, the use of such polynucleotides and polypeptides, and more specifically to enzymes having alpha-galactosidase activity. In one aspect, the alpha-galactosidase activity comprises hydrolyzing a non-reducing terminal alpha 1-3,4,6 linked galactose. In one aspect, the alpha-galactosidase activity comprises hydrolysis of a polysaccharide or an oligosaccharide, such as a raffinose, a stachyose or a verbascose.
