PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a system for authenticating users in a public wireless LAN service system, which are capable of giving permission about access to public wireless LAN services and to provide a recording medium. SOLUTION: A user terminal 100 receives Internet services via a wireless LAN. An access point (AP) 110 has IEEE 802.1x functions mounted thereon and is provided with a cache table having at least a user ID code and a password preserved therein. The access point 110 refers to the cache table to confirm a user ID code and a password in response to a wireless LAN access request from the user terminal 100 and permits wireless LAN access when matched but transmits the user ID code and the password to an authentication server 140 when not matched.
