A negative electrode collector for nonaqueous electrolyte secondary batteries is characterized in that the collector is composed of a metal foil, in that each side of the metal foil has a 10-point average surface roughness (Rz) of 3-10 mum, in that the weight per unit area is 40-320 g/m<2>, and in that one or both sides of the negative electrode collector are loaded with a metal or an alloy as a negative electrode active material which enables sufficient charge and discharge. Copper, ion, cobalt, nickel, zinc, silver or an alloy of these metals is preferably used as the metal to be loaded.
