PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To actualize a position detecting system for an electric timepiece, slim-structured, needing little electricity to work, and having high reliability. SOLUTION: This system comprises a plurality of transmission electrodes 12 and 13 formed on a printed circuit board 8 for transmitting transmission signals, a reception electrode 11 formed on the same circuit board 8, a detection wheel 5 having a communication electrode 6 disposed opposite to the transmission electrodes 12 and 13 and to the reception electrode 11, and an IC 10 including a position detecting circuit for receiving a communication signal induced in the communication electrode 6 as a reception signal by the reception electrode 11, inputting the reception signal thereinto to perform phase-comparison with a reference signal, and detecting an angular rotating position of a wheel train.
