PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently trace a channel change by frequently performing a correct channel estimation. SOLUTION: In the method and device improving equalization in a digital communication system, particularly, equalization performance of maximum likelihood sequence estimation (MLSE), an equalizer 300 of the digital communication system comprises: a first buffer 308 for storing received data before equalization; a second buffer 324 for storing error-checked received data; a channel estimator 320 which is connected to the first and second buffers and uses the received data from the first buffer and the error-checked data from the second buffer to judge the channel estimation; and a control unit 310 which is connected to the channel estimator and updates the channel estimation to be used for equalizing the received data by the equalizer.
