An in-cylinder pressure sensor obtains a high resolution pressure curve for each cylinder cycle allowing various data to be derived for improved monitoring and control of operation of the engine. Aspects of engine operation such as maximum cylinder pressure, start of combustion, rate of combustion, combustion noise, engine start control, valve event sensing, valve control, EGR distribution, compressor/turbine pressure ratio measurement and after-treatment system control can be enhanced based on the measured pressure data. |
