PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To transmit the document contents stored as image data with a small amount of data and to enable a user to read the document contents stored as image data even with a portable terminal. SOLUTION: This method for transmitting an image comprises a character area extracting step for extracting a character area from a processing target image, an image segmenting step for segmenting an image in a row unit on the basis of the extracted character area, an image dividing step for dividing the segmented image in accordance with the displayable size of a terminal of a preregistered transmission destination, an image integrating step for integrating divided images, and an image filing step for filing the integrated image for transmission.
