PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inexpensively mass-produce a nanotube containing boron, carbon and nitrogen as constituent elements which has useful characteristics and stable physical properties. SOLUTION: In the boron/carbon/nitrogen nanotube, layers whose proportions of the constituent elements are different either in the longitudinal direction of the nanotube or radially from the center, are laminated. The nanotube is manufactured by passing nitrogen gas through an aqueous ferric nitrate solution, flowing the solution into carbon black fluidized at 1,300-1,500°C, feeding the resulting carbon monoxide gas into a vertical induction furnace to decompose B<SB>4</SB>N<SB>3</SB>O<SB>2</SB>H at 1,600-1,800°C and generate gaseous boron oxide, and reducing this in an atmosphere comprising nitrogen and carbon monoxide employing ferric nitrate as a catalyst.
