The arrangement includes an optical carrier (5) that can be moved independently in two different directions, so that a tool can be positioned in the optical light path between an illumination unit (14) and a projection surface. The projection surface is a light sensitive semiconductor surface with imaging electronics for generating imaging signals. A monitor enables to make visible at least a part of a tool contour. The projection surface, the imaging electronic and the monitor are formed as a compact unit. The illumination unit includes a light emitting diode.
