Storage and retrieval unit (3) comprises a support wagon (4) moved by a drive on at least one horizontal support rail (6), a lifting platform (8) moved by the support wagon, a lifting device moving the lifting platform relative to the support wagon in a vertical direction, and a stabilizing device preventing lateral tilting of the lifting platform. The lifting device has at least two tension devices (7) for suspending the lifting platform on the support wagon. The stabilizing device has at least three tension devices (11) fixed on the sides of the lifting platform lying opposite to the direction of travel. At least two tension devices run to at least two fixing positions in the region of one shelf end and at least one tension device runs to a fixing position in the region of the other shelf end. Each tension device has a drive (12) changing the effective length of the tension device between the lifting platform and the fixing position, and a control controlling the dr ive so that the tension device is taut in each position.
