A plastically-deformable sheet metal member 3 is secured to a padded plate 4 forming part of a vehicle steering wheel 2, and has a cross-section (at least where it is secured to the wheel) of non- circular elongated (e.g. elliptical or rectangular) shape, wherein the member 3 is so disposed that the longer axis of the cross-section is horizontal during straight-ahead travel of the vehicle. The member 3 in longitudinal outline is rectilinear, hyperbolic or part elliptical. The rim of the wheel 2 is connected by spokes to the plate 4. |
