PURPOSE: A series 3-cylinder operation control device of a series 4-cylinder EMV(Electro Magnetic Valve) engine and an operation control method thereof are provided to increase fuel efficiency and emission capacity in deactivation operation of the 4-cylinder EMV engine, to maximize flexibility for changes of cylinders in the deactivation operation for changing the cylinders, and to remove uncomfortableness of passengers by improving shock generated in the deactivation operation. CONSTITUTION: A series 3-cylinder operation control device of a series 4-cylinder EMV including a cylinder block and first, second, third, and fourth cranks(a,b,c,d) comprises six phase variable crankshafts(11,11',12,12',13,13') formed between the four cranks to operate three cylinders by operating only three cylinders and not operating one cylinder; first and second passages arranged to a journal bearing unit of the cylinder block; a 2-way solenoid valve formed to the first and second passages to control the supply of oil; and a phase variable switch disposed to a front panel of the vehicle to rotate six phase variable crankshafts by selectively supplying oil through the 2-way solenoid valve to the first and second passages and change the first, second, and third cranks at the phase difference of 120 degrees to operate three cylinders.
