PURPOSE: A method for operating an improved beam forming device of a base station smart antenna and an operating method therefor are provided to compensate a reference signal with a channel estimation value, and to improve performance of a beamformer by using a beamformer output signal and the compensated reference signal, thereby reducing an error value and improving reception performance. CONSTITUTION: A system initializes a value of a coefficient vector(S100), and inputs a signal applied in CDMA method(S110). The system multiplies the coefficient vector value by the inputted signal, and calculates a reference signal and a normal output signal(S120). The system calculates a channel coefficient by multiplying an amplitude value of a channel signal by an exponential error value(S130). The system calculates the reference signal, divides the input signal by a power ratio, and extracts the normal output signal(S140). The system subtracts the normal output signal from the compensated reference signal, and calculates an error value(S150). The system obtains an updated coefficient vector value, and feeds back a compensation process(S160).
