PURPOSE: A device for controlling buckling load of a steering column is provided to offer substantial safety to a driver by changing the buckling load of a lower tube and an upper tube of the steering column according to the buckling load conditions of the steering column. CONSTITUTION: A device for controlling buckling load of a steering column comprises a position sensor(5) installed to measure relative displacement of a lower tube(1) and an upper tube(3) of the steering column; a permanent magnet(6) and a coil(7) each relatively installed to the lower tube and the upper tube; a relay(11) converting the state transmitting the power of a battery(9) to the coil; and a controller(13) receiving a signal of the position sensor, calculating the relative velocity of the lower tube and the upper tube, and controlling the relay according to the calculated result.
