The sealing system for a compressing piston (8) comprises a sealing ring (5) with a T-shaped cross-section which fits around the piston rod (7). This carries a second ring (15) with a U-shaped cross-section. One arm (12b) of this rests against the inner face of the first ring while the other carries a lip (12a) which fits against the outer face of the piston.
