PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image recorder provided with an automatic document feeder which can easily detect stains on a member such as a roller and a platen glass, perform appropriate action to each of the stains and obtain an inexpensive image with high quality all the time. SOLUTION: This image recorder is provided with a control means for controlling the automatic document feeder and a reading means. The control means makes the reading means read reflected light from a second document feeding carrying means to acquire stain data, discriminates the size of at least the fluctuation width of the stain data and controls stain detection of a transparent member and the second document carrying means when the automatic document feeder is set in a state in which a document can not be carried and the second document carrying means is operated.
