PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely prevent ascent and descent of a car during maintenance/inspection work to ensure worker's safety. SOLUTION: An ascent and descent stop means for stopping ascent and descent of the car mechanically by fastening a balance weight 2 to a pit is provided. The ascent and descent stop means is composed of, for example, a fastening rope 21 fixed to a pit side and an engaging member 22 fixed to the balance weight 2. The balance weight 2 is fastened to the pit through the fastening rope 21 by engaging a hook 21a provided at a tip of the fastening rope 21 with the engaging member 22. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
