PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system for efficiently compressing and decompressing data with correlation in each prescribed data unit. SOLUTION: The data compressing system includes: an input section for dividing input data being a compression object into columns with a prescribed width and receiving the result; a storage section for dividing registration data being a comparison object into columns with the prescribed width and storing the result; and an algorithm executing section that compares the input data column received from the input section with the stored registration data column at a columnar position having correlation with the input data column, calculates the number of bits consecutively coincident between the input data column and the registration data column from the most significant bit, outputs a code with a fixed width in response to the calculated number of coincident bits and the bit parts of the input data column after the coincident part to an output section as compressed data of the input data column, and registers the input data column before the compression to a corresponding columnar position of the storage section as registration data being a succeeding comparison object.
