PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a draft reading device which can set a standard when determining whether there is image information on a reading face of the draft or not, or procedures of operation processing according to a degree of disadvantage, etc. anticipated when an error occurs in determination whether there is an image information on the reading face of the draft or not. SOLUTION: It is made possible to set a discrimination level 36 when discriminating whether there is the image information on the reading face or not, in image information presence discrimination means 31, 42 which discriminate whether there is image information on each reading face of a draft 4 according to the usage of the image data of the draft 4 which is read. When the reading face is discriminated that there is no image information, whether automatically discard the image data on the reading face is performed or not, whether processing is performed according to the selection input after notifying that it is possible to select to discard or to store the image information of the reading face, or whether automatically or selectively performing the discarding process of such image data or not, can be set according to the usage of the image data of the draft 4 which is read.
