<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transflective liquid crystal display device having a single cell gap configuration that phase variation in a reflection region and in a transmission region is controlled by the use of applied electric field so as to optimally illuminate the reflection region and the transmission region of the semitransmissive liquid crystal display device. <P>SOLUTION: The transflective liquid crystal display device includes an active element array substrate 400, a counter substrate 300, a liquid crystal layer 500 and a reflection plate 404. Liquid crystal molecules in the transmission region T are driven with an electric potential between a transparent pixel electrode 402 and a common electrode 302 and liquid crystal molecules in the reflection region R are driven with an electric potential between the transparent pixel electrode 402 and an auxiliary electrode 304 on the active element array substrate 400 or on the counter substrate 300. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
