The method involves using sensors to detect and store the traffic relevant data in the vehicle and to receive traffic announcements from the information center. The traffic relevant data and the traffic information are compared. Only the traffic relevant data which is not included in the stored traffic announcement information is transmitted from the vehicle to the information center. The information center transmits, as a traffic announcement, the state of traffic together with an estimate of how the condition will develop over time, to the vehicle and the development of the situation at every point is time is known in the vehicle.
