<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for detecting a rotation speed for easily detecting a rotation speed with high precision, regardless of the rotation speed of a motor. <P>SOLUTION: A rotation speed is detected based on one cycle count value which is acquired by counting one cycle of a Hall IC signal which is the pulse signal generated by a Hall IC element 44U according to the rotational angle of a shaft. The one cycle of the Hall IC signal is halved, and the period of each half region is counted with a half of a count cycle of the case in which one cycle is counted without dividing as a count cycle.
