PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air cleaning device, in which delay in operation or erroneous detection of smoking is eliminated by starting its operation after surely detecting the start of the smoking of an occupant. SOLUTION: The air cleaning device is provided with an air cleaner for cleaning the air in a vehicle cabin, an ignition detection means to detect lighting of tobacco of the occupant, a smoke detection means to detect the smoke from the tobacco, and a control device for controlling the air cleaner. The control device receives the values detected by the lighting detection means and the smoke detection means. The control device also decides smoking based on the value detected by the smoke detection means after a given time determined beforehand from the time point when the lighting detection means detects or estimate the lighting.
